Ignite talk feedback
WWW: Well researched

More analysis and reflection

My own feedback
WWW: Had a good understanding of my slides
             Kept it flowing
             Presented clearly
             Good use of images
EBI: Kept pace with the slides
        Less writing on some slides
Spoke more on the impacts of social media
        Less emphasis on Twitter

I could now convert my presentation into an ignite talk. I could talk about how social networking has now adapted to consumer habits or about the world cup. However I believe I would have more to talk about once it comes to social networking as there are now many social networking sites around and the new social networking site 'ello' which could also be spoken about.

The Guardian articles and social media

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/jun/08/social-media-winner-world-cup-advertisingp
With this article I completely agree with everything that is said. Even though the article was made before the world cup had happened it backs up my ignite talk in that this world cup was the social media world cup. They said that social media will be the winner over the three platforms which I agreed as it becoming more and more used over loads of different apps. Also saying that Adidas used most of its promotion on digital media rather than TV adds for the first time showing the importance of social media and the power it now has.

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/jul/14/world-cup-final-breaks-facebook-and-twitter-records
You can see why the world cup broke records on twitter and facebook and this was due to the football being a worldwide tournament and the first time social media really was used in worldwide sporting games. You can also see why the semi final was the most tweeted about game due to the result of the home country Brazil getting annihilated. There was buzz all around the world

http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/jul/15/twitter-world-cup-tweets-germany-brazil
You can see why this was the biggest event for Twitter because it was the first time the world could get together and tweet about a worldwide sporting event. This is because in the last world cup which was in 2010 social media wasn't as powerful then with broadcast in which you could say was the most powerful so people didn't really look to tweet then. However now as you can interact with celebrities and also with Twitter introducing new ideas based around the world cup you can see why it smashed Twitter records

http://www.theguardian.com/media/2014/jul/06/twitter-world-cup-2014-social-media-luis-suarez
Within this article the writer speaks about the world cup and how easy it was for anyone to get lots of retweets and favourites. For e.g. him comparing De Bruyne to Prince Harry and from that he got loads of retweets and favourites. He then used the example of Suarez and the bite and how it blew up Twitter and also the English commentary and the contrasting style of commentating. I actually agree with this article in a way if you make something funny or tweet something unique you can easily blow up Twitter. Also showing how big Twitter has become and how used it is around the world.

http://www.theguardian.com/media-network/media-network-blog/2014/jun/12/world-cup-football-social-media-marketing
In this article what is spoken about is the way Twitter has moved on from the last world cup. Also talking about other sporting events that have happened in between such as the olympics in 2012 and the super bowl in 2013. One fact was that there was more tweets about the 2014 world cup before the world cup had even started than the whole of the 2010 world cup. This highlights my ignite talk in that this was the first ever social media world cup in that from 4 years social media has changes drastically and also Facebook was miles ahead before but now Twitter is becoming ever closer to Facebook.

Critical investigation research

The first ever social media football world cup!

Who is being represented?
Many different people are being represented within the world cup. One group that was being presented was the actual country of Brazil who did undergo large amounts of negative publicity due to the contrasting state of their country. In which they invested vast amounts of money into the world cup 2014 when there were parts within their country which needed this money more, such as the people in poverty. As a result of this protests occurred just before the world cup and some even during the world cup which could have been done to gain media coverage.

You could then connote this in that Brazil were seen as the bad people in the world as they only care for the rich and not the poor and more needy. Similarly with Luis Suarez in which he was connoted and represented as a bad guy which is sort of backed up, but some social networking sites took it to a new extreme and also took more exaggerated approaches.

You could also put this into a narrative as Luis Suarez is the villain in all of this relating to the theory of Propp and that Chiellini is the princess who has been saved by fifa but also at the same time is the hero as he didn't fight back against Suarez and accepted his apology and even said he'd like the ban to be reduced.

Within this many institutions then started to realise that there was a chance to promote themselves. Such as businesses such as Nando's taking advantage of the Suarez bite and using Twitter to promote themselves and this did work due to them gaining many retweets and as a result people would have been more aware of them as a brand. So you could see they used the commercial side of things here.

There are no audiences that are specifically targeted for the world cup as this is a world wide tournament and is the biggest sporting tournament in the world. However you could say within demographics that A, B groups could actually go to brazil to watch the games on the other side D, E could not as they do not have enough finances to go to brazil and watch the world cup and just watch it at home instead. Also in the UK you would have ITV and BBC broadcasting the world cup in which these two different broadcasters may draw in different types of audiences as one as adverts and the other doesn't for example.
